Whole-house cleaning
Most Long Island homes have carpet on the second floor, the stairs and in the basement, and those areas wear differently. Stairs collect soil at the front edge of each step, hallways get traffic lanes, and basements hold humidity. We treat each area for what it needs and give you one price for the whole house. For our method and full service list, see carpet cleaning Long Island.
Room by room
Bedrooms. Usually the least soiled rooms, but they collect dust, skin flakes and the occasional spill. A thorough rinse and grooming makes them look new again.
Living and family rooms. This is where traffic lanes form, from the doorway to the couch and the TV. Lanes get a separate pre-treatment so the whole room comes out even.
Stairs and landings. Each step is cleaned with a hand tool, front edge first, because that is where every foot lands. Stairs are priced separately on the walk-through.
Hallways. Narrow and busy, they turn gray first. We pre-treat the center lane and rinse the whole width.
Finished basements. Long Island basements hold humidity, and carpet over a slab can smell musty. Basements often need a deeper extraction and deodorizing, and we leave strong airflow so they dry.
Homes with kids and pets
We use solutions made for homes with children and pets, and we rinse so no residue stays in the carpet where little hands and paws touch it. Pet accidents get an enzyme treatment that breaks down urine salts in the backing and pad; see our pet stain and odor removal page for how that works. Keep pets and kids off the carpet until it is dry, usually 4 to 8 hours.
Move-in and move-out
Empty homes are the easiest and best time to clean carpet. We can clean the day you move out or before furniture arrives. Landlords can book the gap between tenants so the next family moves in to fresh carpet. If the inspection is tomorrow, ask about same-day carpet cleaning.
Seasons on Long Island
Winter brings road salt and slush in on boots, which leaves white crusty marks near the door. Summer brings beach sand and humidity. Spring and fall are popular for a full-house clean before holidays or after the kids go back to school. Our guide on the best season to schedule carpet cleaning explains the trade-offs.
How to get your home ready
- Clear small items, toys and cords from the floor
- Point out stains and pet spots, even ones you already treated
- We move light furniture and clean around beds and dressers
- Plan where pets will stay during the visit and while it dries
- Open windows or run the AC afterward to help drying
Add rugs, sofas and mattresses
Other pieces can be added to the same visit. Area rugs can often be cleaned in place, sofas get the method their fabric tag calls for, and mattresses get a low-moisture clean. See upholstery cleaning and mattress cleaning. Everything is priced on the walk-through, so you see the total before we start.
What a whole-house visit looks like
The crew arrives, walks through every room with you and confirms the price. Hoses run from the van, or portable equipment comes inside for upper floors the hoses cannot reach. We usually start at the top of the house and work down, so nobody walks across a freshly cleaned floor to get out. Stairs are done last on the way down. Before we leave we walk the job with you, point out any spot that only lightened, and set airflow so the carpet dries evenly.
Rental homes, landlords and sellers
The gap between tenants and the days before a home is listed are good times to clean carpet: empty rooms are quick to clean and dry fast, and clean carpet makes a room look newer and smell fresher. You get the price before we start.
How often to clean a home
Most carpet makers recommend professional hot water extraction every 12 to 18 months, and most warranties require it. Homes with pets, young children or allergies usually do better every 6 to 12 months. Busy areas like stairs, hallways and the family room can be cleaned in between without doing the whole house. Our guide how often you should clean carpet has a simple schedule.
