Every rug is different
A machine-made polyester rug, a wool area rug and a hand-knotted Persian need three different approaches. Wool shrinks and felts with too much heat and agitation; some dyes bleed with the wrong pH; silk and viscose can yellow or lose their sheen with water. That is why we test the fiber and the dyes before choosing a method.
Synthetic and many wool area rugs can be cleaned in your home. Hand-knotted, antique, silk and heavily soiled rugs are safer picked up and washed off-site, where they can be dusted, washed, rinsed and dried flat under control.
How in-home rug cleaning works
We vacuum both sides if possible, pre-treat spots and traffic areas, clean with a low-temperature rinse suited to the fiber, groom the pile and set it to dry. We put protective pads under furniture legs so nothing transfers onto a damp rug.
How off-site rug washing works
We pick the rug up, dust it to remove the dry soil that builds up in the foundation, wash it on both sides, rinse it thoroughly, and dry it flat. Fringe is cleaned by hand. We call you when it's ready and return it.

Rug cleaning questions
How much does rug cleaning cost on Long Island?
In-home area rug cleaning starts at $119. Off-site washing for wool, hand-knotted and silk rugs is priced by size and fiber after we inspect the rug. Booking online takes $20 off.
Should my rug be cleaned at home or picked up?
Most synthetic and many wool area rugs clean well at home. Hand-knotted, antique, silk and very dirty rugs, or rugs with urine damage, are safer picked up and washed off-site.
How long does off-site rug cleaning take?
Usually about one to two weeks, depending on size, fiber and drying time.
Can you remove pet urine from a rug?
Often. Urine needs to be flushed out of the foundation, which is done best in an off-site wash. Some urine can permanently change dye colors, and we tell you before we start.
Will my rug shrink or bleed?
Not when it's tested and cleaned with the right method. That's why we test dyes and fiber first.
