Fabric by fabric

Cotton and linen can shrink and brown if they get too wet, so they are cleaned with low moisture and dried fast. Velvet and chenille have a pile that can crush or mat; they are cleaned and then brushed in one direction. Rayon and viscose blends water-spot easily and usually need a dry solvent. Polyester and olefin are durable and can take a full rinse.

Why testing matters

Two sofas that look the same can react completely differently. We read the fabric code and test a hidden area before cleaning the whole piece, and we clean the whole piece so it dries evenly without rings.

Fabric upholstery cleaning questions

Can linen be cleaned?

Yes, with low moisture and fast drying to avoid shrinking and browning.

Will velvet get crushed?

No. We brush the pile after cleaning so it dries even.

X-code fabric should only be vacuumed and brushed; we won't wet-clean it.

How long until it's dry?

Usually 2 to 6 hours depending on the fabric.
