Real silk vs art silk

Real silk is strong but loses sheen, bleeds and distorts with the wrong cleaning. Viscose, often sold as "art silk" or "bamboo silk", is even more fragile: water can yellow it, make it stiff and permanently crush the pile. Many rugs sold as silk are actually viscose, so we burn-test a loose fiber or check the label first.

How we clean them

Silk and viscose get a low-moisture, pH-neutral clean with fast drying, usually after pickup for an off-site wash. Some damage on viscose, like crushed or yellowed spots, can't be reversed, and we tell you before we start.
