The short answer
Rug cleaning on Long Island is usually priced by the square foot or by the rug. Across the industry you will commonly see roughly $2 to $8 per square foot, depending on the fiber and the method. With us, in-home area rug cleaning starts at $119, and hand-knotted, silk and antique rugs are priced after inspection because they need a full off-site wash.
What changes the price
Size is the biggest factor. Fiber is next: synthetic rugs are the least expensive to clean, wool costs more, and silk, viscose and antique rugs cost the most because they need slow, careful handling. Condition matters too: urine contamination, heavy soil, moth damage and fringe work add time.
Method matters. In-home cleaning is faster and cheaper; an off-site wash that dusts, washes both sides, rinses and dries the rug flat takes longer but gets out soil that in-place cleaning can't.
Ways to keep the cost down
Vacuum both sides of the rug regularly so less dry soil builds up, deal with spills right away, and rotate the rug so wear stays even. A rug that is washed every one to two years costs less to clean than one that has gone ten years, because heavy soil and old urine take much more time to remove.
If you have several rugs, clean them together, and add the rug to a carpet or upholstery visit when you can.
How to avoid surprises
Ask for the price after someone has actually seen the rug or a clear photo, and ask what is included: dusting, fringe, pet treatment, pickup and return. We confirm the price before any cleaning starts, and booking online takes $20 off.
