Carpet cleaning for Long Island homes and businesses
Long Island Carpet Cleaning has cleaned carpet in Nassau and Suffolk homes since 2005. We work out of our shop at 77 W 1st St in Deer Park, answer the phone 24 hours a day, and send our own crews to every town from Inwood and the Five Towns to Montauk and Orient. This page explains how we clean, what we clean, how pricing works and which towns we cover, so you know exactly what to expect before you call.
Why vacuuming isn't enough
A vacuum lifts loose dirt from the top of the pile. The grit that wears carpet out, the oils that make traffic lanes turn gray, and the dander and dust mite debris that bother allergies settle at the base of the fibers and in the pad. On Long Island that mix also includes beach sand, winter road salt and the humidity that makes basements smell musty.
Carpet makers recommend professional hot water extraction every 12 to 18 months, and most warranties require it. Homes with pets, small children or allergies do better every 6 to 12 months. Waiting too long does not just make the carpet look tired: sharp grit cuts the fibers each time someone walks over it, and that wear cannot be cleaned back.
What we clean
- Wall-to-wall carpet in living rooms, bedrooms and family rooms
- Stairs and landings, cleaned step by step with a hand tool
- Hallways and traffic lanes that have turned gray
- Finished basements that hold humidity and musty odor
- Area rugs that can be cleaned in place, and rugs we pick up for a full wash
- Offices, stores and common areas, before opening or after closing
Most homes need more than one kind of clean. A bedroom might only need a deep rinse, while the stairs, the dog's favorite corner and the basement each need their own treatment. We plan the visit room by room so every area gets what it needs, and you get one price for the whole job. If you want the details for a full house, see our residential carpet cleaning page; for offices and stores, see commercial carpet cleaning.
How we clean carpet, step by step
1. Walk-through and price. We look at the fiber, the traffic lanes and every stain. We tell you what will come out fully and what may only lighten, and we confirm the price before any work starts.
2. Dry soil and pre-spray. We vacuum high-traffic areas, then pre-spray to break down soil and body oils. Traffic lanes, spots and pet areas are treated separately, because each one needs a different product and a little time to work.
3. Hot water extraction. We rinse the carpet with heated water and pull it back out with strong suction, using a truck-mounted unit or portable equipment for apartments and upper floors the hoses cannot reach. This is the method most people call steam carpet cleaning.
4. Residue-free rinse. The rinse step matters most. Shampoo and cheap machines leave soap in the carpet, and that residue attracts dirt so it looks worse in a few weeks. We rinse so nothing sticky is left behind. That is the biggest difference between a professional carpet cleaning and a rental machine.
5. Grooming and drying. We groom the pile so it dries evenly, set airflow and walk the job with you before we leave. Carpet is usually dry in about 4 to 8 hours, and you can walk on it in socks right away.
Stains, pets and odors
Coffee, red wine, juice, mud, makeup and grease each respond to a different spotter, so we treat stains one by one before the main clean. Fresh spills are the easiest; old stains that were scrubbed or treated with colored cleaners can set, and we tell you honestly what to expect. Our carpet stain removal page explains how we handle the hard ones.
Pet urine is a different problem. It soaks through to the backing and pad, and the salts it leaves release odor every time the air gets humid. We find the spots, apply an enzyme treatment that breaks those salts down, and then extract. Read more about our pet stain and odor removal.
Stairs, basements and offices
Stairs are priced separately because each step is cleaned by hand with an upholstery tool; soil collects at the front edge of every tread. Finished basements often need a deeper extraction and deodorizing because the pad holds humidity. For offices and stores we schedule before opening, after closing or on weekends, and can set up a recurring schedule for entrances and hallways.
How pricing works
Carpet cleaning starts at $119 for one room of any size. We do not charge by the square foot for rooms, so a large living room is not a surprise. Stairs, hallways, pet treatment and protector are priced on the walk-through, and you approve the full price before we start. Booking online takes $20 off any service. Same-day visits are priced the same as scheduled ones. Want the full breakdown? Read how much carpet cleaning costs on Long Island.
Getting ready for your cleaning
- Pick up toys, shoes, cords and anything small or fragile from the floor
- Tell us about stains you know about, even ones you already tried to clean
- We move light furniture like chairs and end tables; beds, dressers and heavy pieces are cleaned around
- Keep pets in another room while we work and until the carpet is dry
- Run the AC or a fan afterward to speed drying
Same day, nights and weekends
We answer the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. Towns near our Deer Park shop, like Wyandanch, North Babylon, Brentwood, Melville and Farmingdale, are the easiest to fit in the same day; farther towns are usually next day. If you have guests coming, a move-out inspection or a fresh spill, see same-day carpet cleaning or call (516) 708-0278 and we will tell you right away when a crew can come. You can also send a request through our contact page.
Carpet types we clean
Most Long Island homes have nylon or polyester carpet, which handles hot water extraction very well. Olefin (polypropylene) and berber loops are common in basements and rentals; they resist stains but hold on to oily soil, so traffic lanes get extra pre-treatment. Wool carpet is cleaned at a lower temperature with a wool-safe rinse after we check the fiber. Natural fibers like sisal and jute, and delicate silk or viscose rugs, are never soaked; they get a low-moisture method or a specialist wash. If you are not sure what you have, we check on the walk-through.
A local company, not a call center
When you call (516) 708-0278, day or night, you talk to the people who schedule the trucks. You get a straight answer on price and timing, and the crew that shows up does a walk-through and confirms the price before any cleaning starts. Being based in Deer Park, near the Nassau-Suffolk line, means short drive times to most of Long Island and an easier time fitting in same-day visits. Carpet cleaning questions
How much does carpet cleaning cost on Long Island?
Carpet cleaning starts at $119 for one room of any size. Stairs, hallways, pet treatment and protector are priced on the walk-through, and you approve the price before we start. Booking online takes $20 off.
How long does carpet take to dry?
Usually 4 to 8 hours, depending on the carpet, humidity and airflow. You can walk on it in socks right away; running the AC or a fan speeds drying.
Is steam cleaning safe for my carpet?
Yes for nylon, polyester and most wool carpet, which is what most Long Island homes have. We check the fiber first and use a lower temperature and wool-safe rinse on wool.
Will the stains come back?
Stains come back when soap residue is left behind or when a spill soaked deep into the pad. We rinse out residue and extract spots from the pad, which stops most wicking. If a spot does reappear within a few days, call us.
Do I have to move furniture?
No. We move light furniture like chairs and end tables and clean around beds, dressers and heavy pieces. Please pick up small items and anything fragile.
How often should carpet be cleaned?
Most carpet makers recommend professional hot water extraction every 12 to 18 months, and most warranties require it. Homes with pets, young kids or allergies usually do better every 6 to 12 months.
Which towns do you serve?
Every town in Nassau and Suffolk County, from our shop at 77 W 1st St in Deer Park. Towns near Deer Park can often be booked the same day; the East End and North Fork are usually next day.
Are you open on weekends and at night?
Yes. We answer the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays, and schedule early, late and weekend visits.
